Since 1979, IPK has become a Centre of Excellence dedicated not only to Parasitology and Tropical Medicine but also to Medical Microbiology, Infectology, and Epidemiology of Communicable Diseases.

The worldwide prestige gained by IPK in human resources formation and in biomedical research has resulted in a significant technical cooperation with other institutions and countries. Over the time, 20 000 specialists have been trained at IPK; of them, 2 500 are from 72 countries from the 5 continents.

IPK's organizational structure plays a key role in the scientific development of the institution, supported by the invaluable work carried out by its divisions.
